Broadband usage allowances
It’s not very nice when someone takes more than their fair share. That’s why we’re implementing our usage limits to guarantee JT customers get the speeds and levels of service they deserve.
Unlimited overnight usage
As part of our new JT Home broadband tariffs we’ve introduced unlimited overnight usage (Between midnight and 8am). This gives you the chance to transfer data heavy files, such as software updates, without adding to your usage allowance. This also means that if the heavy data transfers are carried out overnight, the average user experience during peak times should be improved.
Daytime usage
We’ve moved our new daytime usage limits inline with current customer trends, so if you’re one of our 80% of customers that currently use less than 10GB a month, you won’t be affected. If you’re registered for online billing we’ll also notify you via email when you’ve reached 75% of your allowance.
How much is 10GB?
Our offering on the basic Home Broadband tariff is very generous, with over 80% of customers currently using less than 10GB per month during the day. To give you a better idea of what 10GB means, we've got an example below.
Send or receive 500 emails
Browse the internet for 80 hours
Download 50 music tracks
Download 2 movies
Stream video (e.g. Youtube / BBC iPlayer) for 20 hours
How to keep control of your usage
Wireless security - Wireless networks don’t stop at the walls of your home, so if you have a wireless router make sure it’s secured so that only authorised users can access your network.
Schedule Software updates and downloads – Various download managers are currently available giving you the ability to schedule downloads between midnight and 8am (when usage is unlimited)
Usage notifications - All customers registered for online billing will be sent an email notification when they’ve reached 75% of their usage, however you can access your usage at anytime using the online portal and also sign up for 50% and 90% usage notifications.
